What is a Super Visa?

Super Visa is a temporary resident permit that allows parents or grandparents of a Canadian citizen or PR of Canada to stay up to 2 years. It is a multiple-entry visa that permits multiple entries for a certain period up to 10 years. 

When Do You Need a Super Visa? 

If you are planning to stay for more than six months with your grandchildren or children in Canada, you’ll need a super visa.

Elsewise, if you are planning to stay for less than six months, you’ll only need a visitor visa

Who Is Eligible For Super Visa?

 To get a super visa, you must meet the following criteria. 

  • You must have to be the parent or grandparent of Permanent Resident of Canada or Canadian citizens.
  • You must have an invitation letter from your children or grandchildren. The invitation letter must include, 
    • Proof of financial support for the length of your visit,
    • The number of people in your children or grandchildren’s family,  
    • The valid Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document of your children or grandchildren,
  • You must have medical insurance from any Canadian insurance company. The insurance must be valid for one year with at least $100,000 coverage and proof that it is paid. 
  • You must apply for a super visa from outside Canada.
  • Check whether you can enter Canada by meeting specific criteria. 
  • You must take an immigration medical exam.

What Do You Need for Proof of Financial Support or Proof of Fund? 

At first, your child or grandchild must meet the minimum necessary income according to the Canadian govt. They must show the following documents as proof of funds:

  • T4/T1 or Notice of Assessment for recent tax year
  • Employment letter with salary and date of hire
  • Employment insurance stubs
  • Pay stubs
  • Bank statements

Additional Requirements for a Super Visa

The Canadian government will also check whether you’ll leave at the end of your visit. That’s why you must proof;

  • Your bonds with other family members in your home country,
  • The purpose of your visit to Canada,
  • Details about your family and assets,
  • The overall economic and political constancy of your home country. 

How to Apply for a Super Visa?

First and foremost, get all the documents ready. The documents include a letter of invitation from your child or grandchild, proof of funds, proof of payment for medical insurance, and proof of immigration medical exam

To be able to apply for a super visa, you must apply from outside Canada. You can apply through online or on paper. Among both, online application is must more accessible and take less time for processing. 

If you are applying online,

  • Make electronic copies of all your documents.
  • Take a valid credit or debit card to pay the fees.
  • Pay the biometric fee while applying to avoid delays.

What Happen After Applying?

If you are from a visa-required country

  • You’ll need to give biometrics (fingerprints and photo). You’ll get 30 days for this, but at first, you need to pay the biometrics fee. 
  • After you apply with biometrics, the visa officer may also ask for;
    • An interview with their officials in your country. 
    • A medical exam
    • A police certificate
    • And other information.
  • After the process, they will return your passport and other original documents except for original bank statements. When your visa is approved, they’ll stamp the visa inside your passport. If the visa gets refused, they will send you an explanation.

If you are visa-exempt, don’t worry, you can still apply. The Canadian government will issue a letter to give to a border service officer after you arrive in Canada.  

What Happen After Arriving In Canada With A Super Visa?

While entering through any of 10 major Canadian Airport,

  • They will check your fingerprint at a Primary Inspection Kiosk.
  • The system will automatically verify your identity and documents.

While entering through smaller airports, 

  • The border service officer will check your fingerprints with a device.

After you arrive, the officer may ask for your passport and other documents like a copy of your medical insurance.
