Permanent Residence Programs for Caregivers
The government has launched the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot program recently. It’s a 5-year program that let qualified caregivers and their family become a permanent residence. You can apply to this program, only if you;
- Meet the eligibility requirements of Home Child Care Provider-NOC 4411 or Home Support Worker-NOC 4412
- Have a valid job offer
Start-up Visa
Are you planning to immigrate to Canada to start a business as an entrepreneur? Canada’s start-up visa program is the way to do it. The start-up visa program targets dynamic entrepreneurs around the world to immigrate to Canada.
Read MoreAfter applying in these pilot programs, you’ll get an open work permit to come to Canada. With this work permit, you;
- Have to work in that particular occupation
- Will get work experience which is needed for permanent residence
- Don’t require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
Live-in Caregiver Program
You can apply for permanent residence through the Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) only if you;
- Have at least two years of work experience in the LCP program
- Have an LCP work permit and already working in Canada
- Were approved for your LCP work permit based on an LMIA, which was submitted to Employment and Social Development Canada before or on November 30, 2014.
Self-Employed
Do you want to immigrate to Canada as a self-employed person? The Canadian Self-employed program is what you need. This program is aimed at those who have relevant experience in athletic, cultural activities,and farm management.

You can apply to work temporarily if you don’t meet the requirements for permanent residence. Though currently, they are not processing any new work permit for caregivers who;
- Apply from outside Canada
- Apply through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program
- Will be working outside of Quebec
- Your employer applies for an LMIA on or after June 18, 2019
In general, you can apply to work temporarily as a caregiver through the TFWP only if;
- You are eligible to apply for a work permit from inside Canada
- Your employer applied for an LMIA before June 18, 2019
- You will work in Quebec
You can also extend your current work permit through the TFWP program if you are now working in Canada.
